Trailer: Armando Ianucci’s “The Death of Stalin”
“The Thick of It” and “Veep” creator Armando Iannucci made his big screen directing debut with the endlessly quotable and darkly hilarious “In the Loop” in 2009.
Nearly a decade later, he returns with his second effort – this time bringing his swearing-laden savage black political comedy and putting it in a Russian period setting (albeit with the cast keeping their British & American accents) with “The Death of Stalin”.
The story is based on Fabien Nury and Thierry Robin’s French graphic novel which offers a comedic look at the Soviet dictator’s last days, and depicts the chaos of the regime after his death in 1953 following 30 years of iron-fisted rule over the Soviet Union.
Steve Buscemi, Jason Isaacs, Andrea Riseborough, Paddy Considine, Simon Russell Beale, Rupert Friend, Michael Palin, and Jeffrey Tambor star in the film which opens October 20th in the UK.
