Psyonix & Tespa Announce Collegiate Competitive ‘Rocket League’

Today, Psyonix and Tespa came together to announce the Collegiate Rocket League, an eSports league for the game that will be held at a college level much like other eSports has been doing such as Overwatch and Dota 2. The goal of the new league will be to form three-person Rocket League teams who will start competition this September and concluding early December. After an initial round of games, a bracket will be formed for a 3-on-3 tournament in the hopes of winning a share of $50k in scholarships and the CRL National Champions.

Participating colleges have not yet been announced, only that there will be a Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Conference. Considering a number of colleges that are now offering scholarships to form eSports teams, there’s great potential for dozens of major colleges to take part in the system and have someone come out on top for their respective school. There were also no details given out about how a particular college could join the league or get involved, so while the announcement is cool, the execution may be slightly complicated since they’re announcing competitions happening next month. It’ll be interesting to see how this particular Rocket League system is treated.
