Hugh Jackman Ignores Doctor’s Orders for The Greatest Showman
This is the type of behind-the-scenes clip I like. The video is for the Greatest Showman, which opens tomorrow. Director Michael Gracey and star Hugh Jackman set up a clip from the table read… and with a table read for a musical, there is singing. It took them eight months to for them to get everyone together in the same room, and the day before it happened, Jackman had minor surgery on his nose and was told he couldn’t sing for a while. His solution was to stand up and act out the part, but not sing. That worked well — until they got to the song From Now On, and Jackman appeared to be too into the role to not sing. It’s a fun video to watch.
Fans of the Arrowverse will notice standing nearest to Jackman throughout the video is Jeremy Jordan, who plays Winn Schott on Supergirl. Another tie to the DCTV world is the two gentlemen who wrote the music for the film, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who did the music for La La Land and wrote the song Runnin’ Home To You that was featured in last year’s musical episode of The Flash where Barry (Grant Gustin) sang it as a proposal to Iris (Candice Patton).
The Greatest Showman, inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. It stars Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson.
