foxgist Cool Ranks the Comic Book Movies of 2017

foxgist Cool Ranks the Comic Book Movies of 2017

There were a lot of comic book movies in 2017! I decided it was time to wrangle the writers and editors to get their rankings about where each movie falls on the list.

We included 11 movies on the list because despite there being a few smaller indies based on comics (Wilson being an example), we didn’t see the point in adding in a movie almost no one would have seen. As it is, only six of the 20 staff members who turned in their rankings have seen all 11 films on this list. If a movie is left off of a staff member’s list, then that means the staff member didn’t see the movie.

All right, so let’s take a look at these numbers. First of all I was surprised to see how many people, six out of the 20, didn’t see Justice League, despite it being such a big deal. It’s funny to see it go against something like Wonder Woman. It and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were the only two movies that all 20 people saw. It’s interesting how many people saw Wonder Woman but still decided not to see Justice League right away. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Logan only had one person, and not the same person, that didn’t see them. Nine people didn’t see Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and eight people didn’t see Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Ghost in the Shell.

The average ranking based on all 20 people is as follows:

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Logan
  3. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
  4. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  5. Thor: Ragnarok
  6. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets
  7. Atomic Blonde
  8. The LEGO Batman Movie
  9. Justice League
  10. Kingsman: The Golden Circle
  11. Ghost In The Shell

Next we have the sorting by variance. The top one is the one we agreed on the most, while the last one is the one we all disagreed on the most.

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Logan
  3. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
  4. Thor: Ragnarok
  5. Kingsman: The Golden Circle
  6. The LEGO Batman Movie
  7. Atomic Blonde
  8. Ghost In The Shell
  9. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  10. Justice League
  11. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets

Now we are sorting by average rank, and the N/As people put in when they didn’t see the movie. The more N/As pulled the rankings down.

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Logan
  3. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
  4. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  5. Thor: Ragnarok
  6. The LEGO Batman Movie
  7. Atomic Blonde
  8. Justice League
  9. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets
  10. Kingsman: The Golden Circle
  11. Ghost In The Shell

All right, so that’s where the numbers fall. How would you rank the comic book movies that came out in 2017? Let us know in the comments.
